Candid Wedding Photographer in Aspen
As a candid Aspen wedding photographer, I love capturing documentary style weddings at a lot of venues in the Roaring Fork Valley. From the Little Nell, to the St Regis or Viceroy Snowmass, I love capturing epic mountain views and intentionally planned wedding weekends in such a beautiful place. You’ll want to read all the way through to make sure that you have all the info on planning a beautiful Aspen wedding day, whether at the Historical Society or elsewhere!
About the Wheeler Museum and Aspen Historical Society
If you’re wanting to get married in Aspen, but want a more laid back location, the Wheeler Museum is a great option in the middle of town with historic Aspen charm. However, the Aspen Historical Society offers a few different options around Aspen Valley for stunning wedding venues! Here are my top three favorite options:
Wheeler / Stallard Museum
This is the venue of the wedding I captured in this post! I love this venue for a few reasons. First, it has two separate spaces that break up the ceremony and the reception space. Both the ceremony & reception space are covered with lots of shade, covered by beautiful pine trees that will be green year-round. The reception area has a patio perfect for dancing, and plenty of space for a stunning marquee tent – a look I always love in photos. This reception was tented, and made for the most beautiful lighting as you can see!
Ashcroft & Pine Creek Cookhouse
For a more mountainous venue, Ashcroft Valley is a more remote Aspen wedding venue. I love this location for the privacy and the ability to head down to a valley with views of Castle Peak for your newlywed photos. After your ceremony, head down to Pine Creek Cookhouse, where you can have an iconic Aspen wedding reception!
Marolt Barn
Marolt Barn is my final favorite option for hosting your wedding weekend in Aspen. I particularly love this location for an outdoor welcome party – grab your Kemosabe hat and the vibe of your party will be classic mountain-chic.
Why hire a local Aspen Wedding Photographer?
Aspen is an iconic destination wedding location, and many couples come from places like New York, Texas, and California. Instead of bringing in a photographer from somewhere else, hiring a local Aspen wedding photographer can change your wedding experience for the better! Here are my top 3 reasons why:
Local Aspen wedding photographers know the area
I’ve seen so many photographers come from New York & California, and the unfortunately plan too little time to move from one location to the other throughout the day, causing so many delays. A local photographer like myself knows to allow 20 minutes for the gondola ride to the top of Aspen mountain! We’ll also know the best photoshoot locations, and that traffic in the summertime can quadruple the time it takes to get in and out of town.
Aspen-based wedding photographers can anticipate the weather
Every Aspen wedding photographer knows to expect snow in May to early June, rain showers every afternoon in the summer, and temperatures dropping based on the area and altitude. I have shot my fair share of mountain weddings in Colorado, and I’ll be able to quickly adjust our portrait times & locations based on my experience!
Don’t be stuck without a photographer
Finally, the most-important, reason you’ll want to hire a local Aspen wedding photographer is because traveling into the Aspen Valley can be incredibly restrictive and unpredictable. By hiring local, you do not risk being without a photographer when the roads into Aspen close because of a wildfire, or the airport closes because of wind and weather restrictions. These are just two scenarios that I’ve personally witnessed multiple times!
